Free AI Mental Health Service Launches for Pakistan's 24 Million Who Need Mental-Health Care
Pakistan is in the grip of a mental health crisis. An estimated 24 million people need mental-health care, yet around 90% receive none — driven by stigma, cost, and a catastrophic shortage of psychiatrists (fewer than 500 for a nation of 240 million).
Anxiety.pk is a free, always-on digital mental health service designed specifically for this context. Built by British-Pakistani founder Imran Hashmi, the platform uses culturally sensitive AI to provide immediate, judgment-free support in both Urdu and English — with no registration, no cost, and no waiting list.
The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, via web and WhatsApp. Users can speak openly about depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and relationship difficulties in the language they are most comfortable in.
The project has been recognised by former Government of Pakistan ministers and international mental health advocates, including a conversation with Sarah Ferguson about the challenge of mental health stigma in South Asian communities.
